Man faces DWI charges after crashing into police car

When a person is alleged to been driving under the influence and is facing drunk driving charges, it will often stem from a traffic stop in which Rochester law enforcement will see the vehicle operated in such a way that implies the driver is under the influence.

In other instances, there is an accident and, as law enforcement investigates, there is a belief that the driver was committing DWI and an arrest is made. In still other cases, the situation will combine a variety of factors and that will lead to a DWI arrest. Regardless of the circumstances, it is imperative that a person charged understands the potential consequences and takes the necessary steps to craft a viable defense.

A man was arrested for DWI offenses after he crossed the center line of the road and crashed into a police car. The accident happened overnight at approximately 3 a.m. The officer was heading west when the alleged drunk driver’s vehicle was going east. The eastbound vehicle went into the opposite lanes and hit the officer’s cruiser. The officer was taken to the hospital for treatment. The injuries were not believed to be life-threatening. The driver of the vehicle that crashed and a passenger were unhurt. The investigation is continuing.

Being arrested for DWI offenses is difficult enough in any situation. A conviction can result in the loss of driving privileges, fines, incarceration and other penalties. Even when the driver gets his or her driver license back, there will be raised insurance rates and the possibility of worse penalties if there is another DWI conviction. When the incident that led to the arrest involves an accident and that accident is with a law enforcement officer, the alleged drunk driver will not know where to turn. Fortunately, there are avenues to lodge a defense and a law firm experienced in DWI charges can help.

A driver who ran across the center line of the road and hit a police cruiser was arrested for DWI. While the officer was released from the hospital, it does not mean that the alleged drunk driver is safe from the long-term implications of the charges. Any DWI case is tough and having legal assistance is essential. A law firm that understands drunk driving cases might be able to reduce the charges or get an outright acquittal. Calling for advice and guidance is key to formulating a strong defense.
