Jury Acquits Michael A. Williams of All Charges in Rochester Weapons and Drug Case

Rochester, NY – January 16, 2025 Riotto Law, a leading criminal defense firm in upstate New York, proudly announces the full acquittal of our client, Michael A. Williams who was wrongfully charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, two counts of Criminal Possession of a Firearm in the Third Degree, and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree.

Williams was arrested by the Rochester Police Department on July 10, 2024, yet was initially detained without any charges. It was only later that weapons and narcotics were allegedly recovered—long after our client was already in custody. At trial, law enforcement officers provided conflicting testimony which led the jury to return a Not Guilty verdict on all counts in just a few hours.

“This verdict is not just a win for our client but a stark reminder of the dangers of rushed and unsupported criminal charges,” said William Swift, lead defense counsel. “From the moment of arrest, our office fought tirelessly to expose the weaknesses in the prosecution’s case. The jury’s quick decision confirms what we have argued all along—there was no credible evidence linking our client to these alleged offenses.”

The acquittal is the result of months of relentless advocacy by the entire defense team at Riotto Law. From extensive legal research and meticulous trial preparation to cross-examining key witnesses and highlighting inconsistencies in testimony, every member of our firm played a vital role in securing this outcome.

“This case exemplifies why a strong and dedicated defense matters,” added James Riotto. “We are incredibly proud of the hard work of our attorneys, paralegals, and staff, who left no stone unturned in the pursuit of justice.”

Riotto Law remains committed to defending individuals against unjust prosecutions and ensuring that every client receives the aggressive representation they deserve.
