It is illegal to take part in prostitution in New York State in any respect. When arrested on prostitution charges, there can be penalties assessed including fines and jail time. Even worse is the stigma that is attached to the charges. People might have their family life and employment negatively affected by the mere allegations of being involved with prostitution. Regardless of the situation, one of the key factors in a prostitution case is to lodge a strong criminal defense. It might be possible to reduce the charges or gain an outright acquittal. A law enforcement sting led to the arrest of six men in Upstate New York who are accused of seeking to meet with a prostitute. One is a doctor in the area. The doctor, 47, has worked in the area for 15 years and received a leave of absence from his job due to the arrest. He was charged with third-degree patronizing a person for prostitution. It is a misdemeanor. The men all received desk appearance tickets.
The investigation commenced when law enforcement became suspicious of behavior in the area. An advertisement was found on a website in which the woman was requesting money in exchange for sex. Deputies utilized social media to catch men who sought to meet the woman. The woman is said to be a drug addict and uses the money from prostituting to purchase heroin. The men set up meetings with the woman at a motel and were arrested when they went to the location.
Independent of a person’s station in the community, everyone needs to have a defense against prostitution charges. When considering the consequences legally, personally and professionally, it is of paramount important to protect oneself. It might have been a misunderstanding. It could have been a one-time mistake. No matter what, it is advisable in such situations to call an attorney experienced in defending clients on charges related to prostitution to plan for a defense.
